Kaka goal seals Brazil win
Tuesday, September 05, 2006

Brazil put on a mesmerising display to beat rivals Argentina 3-0 in a friendly at Arsenal's new Emirates stadium.

A brace from striker Elano and a wonder goal from substitue Kaka gave the former world champions the win to ruin Alfio's Basile's first match as coach of Argentina.

West Ham's new signings Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano started for Argentina while Arsenal's latest signing Julio Baptiste got his first taste of the Emirates stadium after coming on as a substitute.

Despite being a friendly, English referee Steve Bennett had to control both sets of players after tempers flared between the South American rivals.

The new look Brazilians got off to a perfect start after Robinho's exquisite flick found Elano who fired past goalkeeper Gomes in the second minute for his first international goal.

Real striker Robinho nearly capped off an impressive first half display with a goal but his shot from the edge of the box was parried by Roberto Abbondanzieri.

Mascherano was brought off at half time after a quiet display and Argentina improved in the second half.

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi headed over from close range in the 46th minute and Tevez was unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty 15 minutes later after his shot struck Gilberto Silva's hand.

Brazil, coached by former captain Dunga, doubled their lead on 68 minutes after a flowing move involving Fred and Kaka was finished off by Elano who fired a low shot past Abbondanzieri into the right corner.

Substitute Walter Samuel was fortunate to stay on the field after appearing to stamp on Vagner Love while £16 million defender Sergio Aguero raked his studs down Lucio's shin in the closing minutes.

Kaka stole the show in the 90th minute with a stunning strike to put the seal on an emphatic victory.

The AC Milan star won the ball from Messi inside his own half and outpaced the Argentine defence on a 60 yard run before firing past the goalkeeper into the left hand corner.

Brazil face John Toshack's Wales in a friendly at White Hart Lane on Tuesday.
