Kaka scores in Parma victory
Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Clarence Seedorf's sublime free kick and a Kaka penalty secured victory in Parma as Milan maintain their 100 per cent record. The eight-point penalty has now been chipped away to -2.

These two sides produced epic clashes last term, Milan winning 4-3 at San Siro and 3-2 in the return leg. Both teams had confidence-boosting midweek victories in Europe and that meant rotating the squad with ex-Parma men Daniele Bonera and Alberto Gilardino returning to the Tardini.

The home side had the first chance after 11 minutes, as Domenico Morfeo pounced on a Billy Costacurta error and set up Andrea Gasbarroni, who fired just over the bar.

Igor Budan had timid penalty appeals for a tussle with Dario Simic, but Milan lost 40-year-old Costacurta to an injury, making way for Kakha Kaladze after just 18 minutes.

Gilardino nearly scored against his former teammates, springing the offside trap and his side-footed finish well saved by Alfonso De Lucia.

The Rossoneri broke the deadlock after 26 minutes with a classic free kick from Clarence Seedorf. He was dropped for the midweek Champions League win, but the Dutchman curled in a splendid free kick from 25 metres to beat De Lucia at the near post.

Domenico Morfeo tried from a similar range moments later, but it was well over, and Ricardo Oliveira fired straight at the goalkeeper on the counter-attack. The Brazilian striker was then booked for simulation when he tried to go through defenders.

Andrea Gasbarroni's pace was a problem when Dida blocked a shot from the former Palermo winger.

Gilardino clashed heads with Massimo Paci and the Milanista was left with a deep gash to his forehead. He was in no condition to continue against his old club and was stretchered off, so Kaka became the second forced substitution for Carlo Ancelotti. Rossoneri medical staff later confirmed he required three stitches.

Igor Budan's header was comfortably held by Dida on the stroke of half-time. Andrea Pisanu sparked a counter-attack, but Gasbarroni curled the finish round the far post.

Ricardo Oliveira scored on his Serie A debut last week and almost doubled his tally on 63 minutes with a powerful header on Marek Jankulovski's cross, but De Lucia flew to palm it out from under the crossbar.

Parma introduced former Milan man Vitalii Kutuzov for Pisanu, but Milan threatened again with Kaka's angled shot parried at the near post.

Yet the Gialloblu should've equalised on 67 minutes. Dida came rushing out to close down Vincenzo Grella and Gasbarroni went round the stranded 'keeper, but Dario Simic got back in time for a desperate and decisive goalline clearance.

Kaka earned a free kick from 22 metres and Andrea Pirlo's effort was comfortably held by De Lucia.

Massimo Ambrosini won back the ball in midfield and Kaka rolled it across for Oliveira, but the former Betis Sevilla man ballooned over the bar.

Pirlo set Kaka running down the left flank only for him to fire straight at the goalkeeper. It was now end to end stuff at the Tardini with both teams rushing forward in waves.

Matteo Contini acrobatically managed to take Jankulovski's cross away from Oliveira when only a tap-in would've put the ball in the back of the net.

Kaka sprinted into the area five minutes from time and De Lucia knocked him over inside the area without making contact with the ball. The penalty was inevitable, converted by Kaka low into the far corner, and the goalkeeper was booked.

Oliveira pounced on Contini's weak backpass, but couldn't get past De Lucia. Kutuzov held up the ball for Contini's volley wide at the other end of the field.
