The 25-year-old Brazil international is the strong favourite to win this year's Ballon d'Or after a glittering 12 months capped by success in last season's Champions League final.

"These rumours are certainly a good sign. Until now I did not hear anything, I continue to do what I have to do, my work," said Kaka.

"Yes, it is an important goal, a nice goal.

"I always try to give my best on the pitch, then what happens off the pitch does not depend on me.

"But certainly I would like to receive an award as prestigious as the Ballon d'Or."

Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro is the current European football of the year.
