Kaka to lead charity match
Thursday, May 29, 2008
A number of soccer stars led by Kaka and Liverpool's Steven Gerrard will play a charity match in Germany to raise money for education in Africa and pay tribute to Nelson Mandela.
Italy's Gennaro Gattuso and Clarence Seedorf of the Netherlands have also agreed to play in the July 12 match between two all-star selections at Munich's Allianz Arena.
The match will kick off the worldwide fundraising campaign "Goal4Africa," where people can pledge to donate money for every goal scored by their favourite team over the next two years.
The campaign will continue through the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, with the aim to raise US$90 million in honour of Mandela's 90th birthday on July 18.
The match will include a live show dedicated to Mandela, portraying his engagement in Africa and his life story.
The full rosters for the two teams have not yet been set.
