Kaka returns to Brazil squad
Saturday, September 27, 2008

Ronaldinho was dropped and Kaka was added to Brazil's squad on Thursday for next month's World Cup qualifiers.

Despite being a starter in recent matches, Ronaldinho was left out after several poor performances.

However, his AC Milan teammate Kaka has recovered from a knee injury which made him unavailable for this month's qualifiers, a 3-0 win over Chile, and scoreless draw with Bolivia.

Robinho, Alexandre Pato and Anderson also were among the 22 players summoned by coach Dunga to play Venezuela in San Cristobal on Oct. 12 and Colombia in Rio de Janeiro three days later.

Inter Milan's Mancini received his first callup in two years.

Werder Bremen's Diego was left out because of a suspension due to yellow cards.

Brazil was second in South American qualifying after leader Paraguay, but Dunga has been under immense pressure from local media and fans after the feeble 0-0 home draw against last-place Bolivia on Sept. 10.

Even though Brazil has won the majority of its matches since Dunga took over as coach following the 2006 World Cup, a string of disappointing results earlier this year started calls for him to be replaced by someone with more experience.

Roster:

Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Doni (AS Roma).

Defenders: Maicon (Inter Milan), Daniel Alves (FC Barcelona), Kleber (Santos), Lucio (Bayern Munich), Alex (Chelsea), Juan (AS Roma), Thiago Silva (Fluminense), Juan Maldonado (Flamengo).

Forwards: Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Alexandre Pato (AC Milan), Robinho (Manchester City), Jo (Manchester City).
